Web page provides video of bridge work

The current Clark Street Bridge was opened in 1926, long before the word “computer” had any meaning for the masses.

Now, as crews prepare to remove the old structure and build a new one, a downtown Stevens Point business will provide a live video feed of the project's progress. If all goes well, Horgan Sales & Service at 901 Clark St. will provide a live video feed of the construction site from its “Always There” camera mounted high above the company's office. The image will be broadcast on the company's Web site at www.horgansales.com.

“The community benefits in two ways from the live video,” the company said in a press release. “First, it provides a way for virtually everyone to be updated on the project at any time that it is convenient. Second, because the video feed will be taped 24 hours a day, a level of security will be added to the construction site. It is our hope that by making this a well-known aspect of the project, we will help deter any possible vandalism or other activity.”

Horgan said the video will also allow viewers to watch the work without intruding into the construction area. The video will need to be refreshed every 30 seconds.

The company is also attempting to make arrangements to possibly provide the live image on the city's Web site.
